About this condition
Agenesis of ureter is a rare birth defect where one or both ureters (tubes that carry urine from kidneys to bladder) fail to form during fetal development. This condition often occurs alongside kidney abnormalities on the same side, as the affected kidney may also be absent or malformed. Most cases involve only one side and may be discovered incidentally, but bilateral cases are life-threatening and require immediate medical intervention.
