About this condition
Anal fissures are very common in India, usually caused by passing hard stools that tear the anal lining. They cause severe pain during and after bowel movements with small amounts of bright red blood. Treatment includes stool softeners, adequate fiber and water, topical ointments and sitz baths. Most heal within weeks with proper care.
