About this condition
Frontal encephalocele is a rare birth defect where brain tissue and membranes protrude through an opening in the skull at the forehead area. It appears as a visible sac-like bulge on the front of the head. Surgical correction is necessary soon after birth, and outcomes depend on how much brain tissue is involved and associated complications.
