About this condition

This is a serious infection where pus collects in the mediastinum, the space in the middle of the chest between the lungs that contains the heart and major blood vessels. It usually occurs after chest surgery, severe throat infections, or chest trauma. This is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate hospitalization and surgical drainage.
