About this condition

Dracunculiasis, also called Guinea worm disease, is caused by drinking water contaminated with parasite larvae. After about a year, a painful blister forms and an adult worm slowly emerges from the skin, typically from the leg or foot. India has successfully eliminated this disease, though sporadic cases were historically reported in some rural areas of Rajasthan.
