About this condition
Gas gangrene is a life-threatening bacterial infection that rapidly destroys muscle and soft tissue around wounds. The bacteria produce gas and toxins that cause severe pain, foul-smelling discharge, and visible bubbles under the skin. This medical emergency requires immediate hospitalization, surgical removal of dead tissue, and high-dose antibiotics to prevent death.
