About this condition

Glanders is a rare but serious bacterial infection primarily affecting horses, donkeys, and mules, which can occasionally spread to humans who work closely with these animals. The infection can affect the skin, lungs, or become widespread in the body, causing fever, pustular lesions, and respiratory symptoms. Though rare in India today, it requires prompt antibiotic treatment as it can be fatal if untreated.
