About this condition
Kuru is an extremely rare and fatal brain disease caused by infectious proteins called prions, historically found in Papua New Guinea due to ritualistic cannibalism. It is not found in India and causes progressive neurological deterioration with tremors, loss of coordination, and eventual dementia. There is no cure and the disease is always fatal, though it is now virtually extinct worldwide.
