About this condition
Naegleriasis is a rare but extremely serious brain infection caused by a free-living amoeba found in warm freshwater bodies like lakes, hot springs, and poorly chlorinated pools. The amoeba enters through the nose when contaminated water is forcefully inhaled, traveling to the brain and causing severe inflammation. This condition progresses very rapidly and requires immediate emergency medical attention.
