About this condition
Pasteurellosis is a bacterial infection that most commonly develops after animal bites or scratches, especially from cats and dogs. The wound site becomes swollen, red and painful within hours to days after the bite. Prompt medical attention and antibiotics are important to prevent the infection from spreading to deeper tissues, bones or joints.
